On 25 January 2018, Hospital Selayang welcomed the Deputy Director of Medical Development Division of MOH Datin Sri Dr. Asmah Samat, Rektor of UITM YBhg. Profesor Dato’ Dr. Abu Bakar Abdul Majeed and in the presence of one of the royalty member from Perlis among the other honourable guests to officiate the Grand Opening of the 4 bedded Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) at Hospital Selayang.
The unit is established from a collaboration between MOH and UITM to reduce mortality rate of paediatric. “This unit is equipped with sophisticated medical equipment like NIV ventilators, monitors and ultrasound machine that caters to intensive treatment. Some are graciously donated by UITM, corporations and groups like Petronas and Wakaf Selangor – translation,” said Datin Sri Dr. Asmah Samat during the opening ceremony. She also welcomed donors who would like to contribute to the hospital as she shared that the cost to operate a single intensive care bed is around RM 1.2 million. Other than that, it is reported that the practice of Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) in PHDU has helped reduce Length of Stay (LOS) and Length of Ventilation (LOV) from 24 days to 7 days and 9 days to 4 days respectively.
