As more patients seek stress-free dental care, the demand for sedation dentistry is rising — especially among those with dental anxiety, phobia, special healthcare needs, or paediatric behavioural challenges.
To meet this need, a 3-day hands-on sedation course was held from 16th to 18th May 2025 at MSU Medical Centre, Shah Alam, in collaboration with the MSU Dental Centre.
The workshop was organised with Medik-Link, and covered nitrous oxide sedation, hypnosis, and Basic Life Support (BLS) — equipping dental professionals with practical tools to enhance patient care.
📌 Why Nitrous Oxide Sedation Matters in Dentistry
Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a widely used inhalation agent internationally that helps patients stay conscious and cooperative, while feeling more relaxed during treatment.
While commonly adopted in countries like the US, UK, and Australia, its use in Malaysian private dental clinics is still growing.
This course gave local dentists the opportunity to explore safe sedation options, while also introducing hypnosis as a valuable, non-invasive tool for managing patient fear — particularly in paediatric and special care dentistry.

Led by experts in paediatric and sedation dentistry, the course balanced lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on try-ons — allowing participants to apply what they learned in real time.
